German uses 4 other letters as well. You may or may not choose to use them, as there have substitutes for each of them.
Ä ӓ = ay/eh, depending on how you use it. Pretty much the same as German ‘e:’ head/G ӓ ste the dots over the letters are called an “Umlaut.” They indicate a change in the sound of the vowel. If you don’t want to write your words with an Umlaut, simply write an ‘e’ after the letter. Beispiel: G ӓ ste = Gaeste
Beispiele: 1.Ä pfel 2.Maedchen 3.K ӓ fer 4.Baer
Ö ö = uh/eu, similar to Blur/hören This sound is closer to French than it is to English
Üü = a vowel sound we don’t have in English! It is closest to a combination of the sounds “ee” and “ew”
Beispiele: 1.T ü r 2.Kueche 3.h ü bsch 4.luegen
Das “Ess-tsett” Is the name of this curious creation: ß It makes the same sound as “ss.” The 2 are often interchangeable (more on this later) drei ß ig/dreissig beissen/bei ß en
