SEPARABLE VERBS

Separable verbs have prefixes on them. These prefixes are adverbs and prepositions that are detached from the verb when it is conjugated. Can you think of any German adverbs or prepositions? (Hint: some are 2-3 letter German words)

There are 2 verbs for “to call on the phone”: telefonieren and anrufen Telefonieren is a regular verb. Anrufen is a separable verb. “An” is the separable prefix.

Use “telefonieren” in the sentence, “I am calling my aunt.”

Ich telefoniere meine Tante.

Use “anrufen” in the sentence: “I am calling my aunt.”

Ich rufe meine Tante an.

Also einfach! Nicht wahr?
