He soon converted to Christianity, many following in suit Interesting Fact: Wittekind was described as riding a black horse before his baptism, and a white horse after. White and black horses are often found on coats of arms and flags in Germany and England

15 The Saxon rule came to an end in 1066 n. Chr. After the Norman Conquest King Edward (the Confessor) had no heir, and the chosen successor was trumped by William of Normandy in the Battle of Hastings, ending the Saxon rule
