4 “The success of an intervention depends on the interior condition of the intervenor.”

5 Redesigning: policies
Four Levels of Responding to Change 1. Reacting: quick fixes manifest action 2. Redesigning: policies process, structure 3. Reframing: values, believes thinking Source of energy, inspiration and will 4. Regenerating: sources of commitment and energy

6 Two Sources of Learning, Two Learning Cycles
A. Learning by reflecting on the experiences of the past act - observe - reflect - plan - act B. Learning by presencing emerging futures © 2005 C.O. Scharmer

11 These 1: Die neue Schule lebt in vier unterschiedlichen Feldern der Aufmerksamkeit und Kommunikation.

12 Field Listening1: Downloading I-in-me Listening 2: Factual I-in-it
Field- Structure Of Attention Field Downloading habits of thought reconfirming old opinions, judgments Listening1: Downloading I-in-me Attending from an open mind noticing disconfirming or new data Listening 2: Factual I-in-it Listening 3: Empathic Attending from an open heart seeing the world through the eyes of another I-in-you Attending from source seeing from emerging future possibilities Listening 4: Generative I-in-now

13 Dialogue: Reflective inquiry
Field- Structure Of Attention Field Speaking from what they want to hear Polite routines, empty phrases Autistic system (not saying what you think) 1 Downloading: Talking nice I-in-me Speaking from what I think Divergent views: I am my point of view Adaptive system (say what you think) 2 Debate: Talking tough I-in-it 3 Dialogue: Reflective inquiry Speaking from seeing myself as part of the whole From defending to inquiry into viewpoints Self-reflective system (reflect on your part) I-in-you Speaking from what is moving through Stilness, collective creativity, flow Generative system (identity shift: authentic self) 4 Presencing: Generative flow I-in-now

17 Open Mind Open Heart Open Will

19 K1: non-reflective knowledge
knowledge without self-reflection K2: self-reflective knowledge: reflection-on- action K3: Self- transcending knowledge: reflection-in-action Knowledge and Intelligence OPEN MIND IQ explicit Lecturing: explicit knowledge “learning is to fill a barrel” Training: practice+feedback “learning is to reflect on exercise” Creative practice: e.g. theatre “learning is to improvise in real time” Experiential: immersion journeys, action projects, empathy walk embodied knowledge Case clinics, reflection papers, dialogue walk: reflection-on- embodied knowledge Embodied Presence Practices; Performing personal intention statements; inspiration-in-action OPEN HEART EQ embodied Deep immersion practices: transfor- mative storytellling, total immersion journeys deep inner knowing Deep inversion practices: circle work guided journaling, deep inner self-knowing Stillness practices: room of silence, solo in nature, con- templative practices intuition-in-action OPEN WILL SQ not-yet-embodied © 2008 C.O. Scharmer

20 These 5: Die Organisationsform der neuen Schule ist umfeld-erweiternd und offen und schafft Räume für gesellschaftliche Innovation.

21 Field 1 Centralization: machine bureaucracy I-in-me
Field- Structure Of Attention Field Source of power: hierarchy Complying with central rulescenter-driven Logic: economies of scale (production) 1 Centralization: machine bureaucracy I-in-me Source of power: market success Meeting market demandperiphery-driven Logic: economies of scope (customer) 2 Decentralization: divisions I-in-it 3 Networked: matrix Source of power: networked relationships Mobilize action through networks relational driven Logic: economies of innovation (product innovation) I-in-you Source of power: field of emerging possibilities Shape innovation ecosystemsemerging field driven Logic: economies of presencing (system innovation) 4 Ecosystems of Innovation I-in-now

22 Field Structure of Attention Meso: Macro: Mundo:
Micro: THINKING /LISTENING Field Structure of Attention Meso: CONVERSING /LANGUAGING Macro: ORGANIZING /STRUCTURING Mundo: Mechanism of COORDINATING Field 1: Operating from the old me-world Listening 1: Downloading habits of thought Downloading: Talking nice, politeness rule-reenacting Centralized: Machine bureaucracy Hierarchy: Central plan Listening 2: Factual, object-focused Field 2: Operating from the current it-world Debate: Talking tough rule-revealing Decentralized: divisionalized Market: competition Field 3: Operating from the current you-world Listening 3: Empathic listening Dialogue inquiry rule-reflecting Networked relational Dialogue: (mutual adjustment) Listening 4: Generative listening Field 4: Operating from the highest future possiblity that Is wanting to emerge Presencing: Collective creativity, flow rule-generating Ecosystem Ba Collective Presence: Seeing from the emerging Whole
