6 1.2 The idea of Wissensfabrik Together we move Germany! The Wissensfabrik network of companies creates synergies and shows the path to be fit for the future! Be active! Member companies of Wissensfabrik become actively involved in their regions by establishing partnerships to implement Wissensfabrik projects Be sustainable! 7 1.3 Fields of action: Education + Entrepreneurship Support of education system through all age groups in the following areas: –Basic competencies (reading, writing, calculating ) –MST /STEM –Entrepreneurship education Support of start-ups through mentoring programmes and a start-up competition called WECONOMY Companies build up partnerships with schools in their regions or with start-ups as mentors Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e. 13 2.2 Example KiTec – Children discover technology Scientific partner ZNL, Ulm (brain research) Inst. for teaching technology, University of Dortmund Target group primary schools, 5th and 6th grade Content Encourage basic technical understanding and skills by doing construction work in small teams, e.g. construction and building of a bridge or a vehicle building technology, electrical engineering, vehicle engineering Costs material: 750 (further material 150 ) training: 600 Time required (per 10 schools) 10 % - 15 % FTE for months Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e. 14 2.2.1 KiTec – Project content Kit: Kit developed for a group of 30 kids consists of 5 drawers with tools, wood and material, such as nails, elastic band, steering wheels, glue etc. as well as 30 documentation folders Teachers manual: information on possible construction solutions, step-by-step instruction material, proposal of how to implement this into the curriculum Training: 3-day training for company representatives by ZNL Ulm and Technical Univ. of Dortmund followed by teacher training Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e. November Project scheduling between the member company and Wissensfabrik Company chooses a project manager for the project Company contacts the participating schools cooperation agreement Scientific partner trains the project manager of the member company Company trainers train the teachers Implementation in the classroom Exchange of experiences and project evaluation

Frankfurt Target group Primary schools Contents 36 experiments, topics: water, air, food (for example: how does sugar and salt dissolve in water) Costs Kit for experiments: 200 Training: 300 Time required (per 10 schools) 10 % - 15 % FTE for 3-4 months Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e. 18 3. Getting involved! Becoming a member: –Before being able to implement Wissensfabrik projects, a company has to become a member. Prerequisites for members: –Company or foundation based in Germany –Engagement within Wissensfabrik –Yearly payment of membership fee plus costs for the project chosen Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e. V. 2. November

19 3.1 Membership fee Membership fee: –Membership fee depends on the turnover of the company in Germany per year –per 100 million Euro turnover/revenue = Euro membership fee –minimum fee: Project costs: –costs for project materials (starting at 60 Euro) –personnel costs for the company trainer Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e.
