3 How do two-way preps work? Well, they work in two different ways Hence the name: two-way preps They can be accusative if there is action towards the object Ich gehe unter den Tisch. Or they can be dative if there is no action towards the object Ich bin unter dem Tisch.

4 Accusative changes der – den die stays das stays die plural stays So the only thing to worry about in accusative is changing der to den.

5 Dative changes der – dem die – der das – dem die plural – den, and add –n to word unless the plural ends in – s or already ends in –n.

6 an – on (for upright things) action = accusative die stays die Ich hange das Foto an die Wand. dormant = dative die changes to der Das Foto hängt an der Wand.

7 auf – on (for horizontal things) action= accusative der changes to den Ich stelle das Buch auf den Tisch. dormant = dative der changes to dem Das Buch ist auf dem Tisch.

10 Neben – near, next to active = accusative die plural stays die plural Ich stelle den Kuli neben die Bücher. dormant = dative die plural changes to den, and add an –n to the word Der Kuli ist neben den Büchern.

11 unter - under action = accusative die stays die Ich fahre mein Auto unter die Brücke. dormant = dative die changes to der Das Auto explodiert unter der Brücke.

12 über - over action = accusative der changes to den Ich springe über den Tisch. dormant = dative der changes to dem Das Licht hängt über dem Tisch.

13 vor – in front of action = accusative das stays das Ich gehe vor das Klassenzimmer. dormant = dative das changes to dem Ich stehe vor dem Klassenzimmer.

14 zwischen - between action = accusative die plural stays die Ich stelle den Tisch zwischen die Stuhle. dormant = dative die plural changes to den, with -n Der Tisch ist zwischen den Stuhlen.
