As a result, users increasingly want a say in what technology they use to get job done – this is great as it unleashes people’s productivity and passion, innovation and competitive advantage. These tech savvy users are also increasingly mobile, and operate in a fast paced environment. The dynamic environment, along with ubiquitous connectivity erodes the lines between people’s life and work. Device proliferation, with users having broad access to consumer devices at home, leads to higher user expectations of technology at work. The digital generation entering the work place raises these expectations to a whole new level – a generation that has grown up completely fluent in the language of digital technology has dramatically different expectations about the tools they should be able to use at work. We believe there is a power in saying “yes” to users and their technology requests in a responsible way. Our goal is to enable you, our partners, to enable your small business customers to embrace these trends but also ensure their environment has enhanced security and is well managed. This poses challenges for IT when it comes to data security, compliance. A recent studies discovered that: Only 43% of European firms are aware of all of the devices that their staff are using for business purposes. 45% of firms know that their employees are using their devices for business purposes And 61% of employees want to make their lives easier by using the same device for business and personal use. In 50% of these cases, the personal device also offers greater functionality or flexibility than the one provided by the employer. So what can we conclude? Two primary things: 1. Consumerization of IT is driving different behaviors in the remote worker. Today, versus just a couple of years ago, they want: more variety in the devices they can use for work to use a common device for both work and personal life seamless access to the server and the network, for most this is an expectation 2. Companies desire better control of the devices connected to their work environment which means again, employers need solutions that allow them to embrace these trends and still maintain data security and compliance. Mobility and Access: We see this trending particularly strong in emerging markets, but is important for everyone is the ability to have access to the network and the server from where ever in the office or when working remotely. Flexibility: There is a strong need for a product that can be adapted to the different needs of small businesses, this includes fulfilling a need for a product that will grow as they grow and not be limiting. We are also hearing that the following attributes should also be considered: Connection to Multiple Devices: It is more than just remote access but access from multiple devices, both employer provided and an employee’s personal device. Price: Although most would say they like “free” – for server solutions, the solution cannot be too expensive or too cheap. If it is too inexpensive the solution is often perceived as a low quality product. For many, especially in the US and Western Europe price is an important indicator of quality. LOB App Stickiness: Small business don’t buy a server because they want a server, they buy a server because they want to be more productive and often productivity is tied to a line of business application. When that is the case, whatever platform they need to run their business and be more productive in doing so is the platform that will succeed. Growth: Small businesses like many businesses have aspirations of growth and don’t want to feel that their growth will be limited by their IT decisions. The first server opportunity is undoubtedly the hardest and will require the largest marketing investment because it is likely that there is not a current relationship with the customer in place, however, we also know that this is the largest opportunity in the market. To support our partner ecosystem – this is where we have made our largest marketing investment to build out the tools and resources you need to execute a 1st Server sales and marketing campaign. Although the 2nd server opportunity is smaller, it also requires less investment as this opportunity allows our partners to connect with customers that you already know and help them understand the benefits for their organization with a 2nd server. The final opportunity, is by far the easiest for you to capitalize on. Currently, there are at least 1m Small Business Server machines on SBS 2003R2 or even earlier versions. With SBS 2003 approaching end of life in 2015 partners have an important role in helping their customers understand not only the benefits of upgrading, but the risks of not upgrading their server(s). Small business IT spending will typically fluctuate based on answers to these two questions: 1. Is it broken? (e.g. has there been a catastrophic hardware or software failure?; or 2. Do we need to make year end capital expenditures to improve our tax liability situation (i.e., strong net income)? Small business owners are too busy to be proactive with technology decisions. Small businesses are focused on their business, not IT. They do not tend to have in-house IT resources and IT is often associated with cost, reliability and complexity issues.

We also built solutions that: Simplify data management Centralize file history Provide integrated Online back-up with Windows Azure, in addition to standard backup of the client and server on premise, we add another layer of protection and security by backing it up online And with the improvements in anywhere access, IT is now able to monitor remote connections and domain join remotely. This feature is much stronger which is especially important to Hosters. For them it means there is very little difference between the Hosted and the on-premise experience. Then finally we add in the capabilities typical of those that you would find in SBS including both alerts and prescriptions for how to fix issues as you are alerted to them. Then we add unique capabilities to the solution including the management of client (all of the file and print shares), devices and server access and the ability to connect from anywhere.
