Zentrale Administration Fortgeschrittene Management Dienste Automatische Software Installation Based on the data we’ve shared with you thus far, we’ve put together recommendations for your installed base of PC hardware. 386 machines - don’t invest any more in this machine in terms of software or hardware upgrades. We’d recommend that you continue to run Windows 3.x on these machines until they can be replaced. In any migration plan, there will be machines like these that just aren’t up to making the move to 32-bit. One option some companies adopt is to donate the machines and take a deduction. 486 machines - for the higher end 486DX machines you should upgrade RAM. Increase RAM to 16-24MB to allow for the introduction of Windows 95 or Windows NT Workstation, and to increase the useful life of these machines for another year or two. We’ve looked at CPU upgrades, and don’t consider that they are worthwhile across the board - they can be complex and expensive. (However if you do wish to consider these, we’d recommend you limit them to some of the newer 486’s in your company.) Pentium machines - upgrade RAM only (in terms of hardware) on these machines.
