2 2 Types of Verbs-Weak or Strong
Weak Verbs also called Regular verbs take te. In English we add an –ed to weak verbs while in German a –te is added. Zum Beispiel: He asked his mother. Auf Deutsch: Er fragte seine Mutter.

3 Irregular Verbs or Strong Verbs
Strong verbs never end in –te but undergo vowel changes and usually end in en. Example-He went home. (went came from go) Zum Beispiel: Er ging nach Hause.

4 Regular Verb Conjugation
Ich fragte Wir fragten Du fragtest Ihr fragtet Er fragte Sie fragten Sie fragte Es fragte

5 Irregular Verb Pattern
Das Verb gehen=ging Ich ging Wir gingen Du gingst Ihr gingt Er ging Sie gingen Sie ging Es ging

6 Purpose of Simple Past Tense
Purpose to express oneself in the past found usually in magazines and books. It is commonly known as the reading past tense. It is not usually used in conversational German.
