You can add extra levels of support by displaying the sound in pairs (e.g. Ah Bay together, letting the pupils work in pairs or you can stick the letters to objects which start with that letter in English (e.g day on a desk) to give them clues. It’s a good idea to get them to practise what letters will sound like as they go round as well. 58 Revise the German vocabulary for fruits by playing Hangman in pairs.
Remember to say the letters in German!

70 An extra one . . .

71 Word spindles Draw a point in the centre of the plate.
Draw a spiral from the centre. Write breakfast foods, drinks and fruits in German using different colours. Pass the plate to a partner to write the translations on the other side. Your partner should then cut along the spiral lines to create a word spindle for hanging up!

72 Discuss in groups: What could you do in class with the breakfast topic? What writing activities could you do?
