Was machst du, um die Umwelt zu schützen?

Ich spare Energie Ich gehe zu Fuß zur Schule Ich bringe Flaschen zum Altglascontainer Plas- tik Rest- müll Bio- müll Ich trenne Müll Ich recycle Altpapier und Glas Ich kaufe umwelt- freundliche Produkte Ich benutze keine Plastiktüten Ich fahre mit dem Fahrrad zur Schule Ich dusche anstatt zu baden (instead of having a bath)

In your speaking exam you might have to talk about what you do to protect the environment (present tense) and what you did last week or yesterday (past tense). Lets have a look at this step by step

Ichkaufe umweltfreundliche Produkte The Present Tense (I buy environmentally friendly products) TRANSFORMATION – Present Tense Present Perfect (past) Ich umweltfreundliche Produkte Ich habe umweltfreundliche Produkte kauft The Present Perfect Tense (past tense) (I bought environmentally friendly products) ge

Regular verbs using haben Ichhabegeduscht Ichhabe den Hausmüll getrennt Ichhabe Energie gespart Ichhabe Glas und Papier recycelt Ichhabe meine Stofftasche benutzt

Now have a look at the verb bringen which is not regular

Ichbringe Glas zum Altglascontainer The Present Tense (I take glass to the bottle bank) TRANSFORMATION – Present Tense Present Perfect (past) Ich Glas zum Altglascontainer Ich habe Glas zum Altglascontainer bracht The Present Perfect Tense (past tense) (I took glass to the bottle bank) ge

Have you noticed….? The participle (the verb at the end of a sentence in the past tense) also had the ge at the front and ended in t But something happened to the middle of the verb. It went from bringe to gebracht. Totally ridiculous!

gehenfahren Now look at the verbsgehen and fahren which also do not follow the regular pattern

Ichgehe zu Fuß zur Schule The Present Tense (I walk to school) TRANSFORMATION – Present Tense Present Perfect (past) Ich zu Fuß zur Schule Ich zu Fuß zur Schule gangen The Present Perfect Tense (past tense) (I walked to school) ge bin

Ichfahre mit dem Rad zur Schule The Present Tense (I travel to school by bike) TRANSFORMATION – Present Tense Present Perfect (past) Ich mit dem Rad zur Schule Ich mit dem Rad zur Schule fahren The Present Perfect Tense (past tense) (I travelled to school by bike) ge bin

Verbs that take sein instead of haben are usually verbs that express movement,i.e. going (ich bin…gegangen) or travelling (ich bin…gefahren)

Schreibe die Sätze auf Deutsch! (write the sentences in German) The sentences will be mixed (some present tense and some past tense) you only have a certain amount of time before the answer comes up automatically (absolutely no clicking at all at any point!) There is also a time reference added, e.g. I used no plastic bags at the week-end Ich habe am Wochenende keine Plastiktüten benutzt Every correct answer is worth 1 point

I always save energy I used my cloth bag in the supermarket at the week-end Ich spare immer Energie I separate the house rubbish every day Ich habe am Wochenende meine Stofftasche im Supermarkt benutzt I took the bottles to the bottle bank yesterday Ich trenne jeden Tag den Hausmüll Ich habe gestern die Flaschen zum Glascontainer gebracht I always shower instead of having a bath I went to school on foot last week Ich dusche immer anstatt zu baden Ich bin letzte Woche zu Fuß zur Schule gegangen
