Wie komme ich zu..... ? (how do I get to....?)

The little word ‘zu’ is a very powerful word because it triggers off a sound change. Look at what happens to the words ‘der/das/die’ if they follow the word ‘zu’!

Wie komme ich zu dem (= zum) Markt? (How do I get to the market?) der Markt Wie komme ich zu dem (= zum) Kino? (How do I get to the cinema?) das Kino Wie komme ich zu der (= zur) Kirche? (How do I get to the church?) die Kirche

But how would you know whether to say ‘zum’ or ‘zur’. Easy But how would you know whether to say ‘zum’ or ‘zur’? Easy! All you need to learn are the colours! If it’s a blue word (masc) or a green word (neuter) you have to say ‘zum’. If it’s a red word (fem.) you have to say ‘zur)

Memorize whether they take ‘Wie komme ich...’ zum/ zum or zur..... On the following slides you will see pictures for those words. If you see a picture for a green word, quickly pick up the green pencil. The person who picks up the correct pencil first, gets a point. The person with the most points is the winner!  
