Command Order Instruction

Give me that! Come here! Parents and teachers are particularly skilled in giving orders!

When you order someone to do something you must know two things: 1. WHAT you want the person to do (in other words the VERB) 2. WHO you are ordering the VERB always come FIRST in the imperative Remember the 3 ways of saying YOU du (informal, singular)ihr (informal, plural) Sie (formal, singular or plural)

The du imperative: is the du form of the present tense verb st komm minus the SNAP –st ending: Verbs with an infinitive ending in –den, -len, -ten keep the final –e: findewartestzeichnest ! ! ! !

Verbs with a vowel stem change in the du form, e.g. nehmen du nimmst Verbs which add an umlaut in the du form sehen du siehst keep this in the imperative: DO NOT keep it in the imperative: e.g. schlafen du schläfst fahren du fährst nimm! sieh! schlaf! fahr!

Lauf über die Planke!

The ihr imperative: is simply the ihr form of the present tense verb e.g. kommen ihr kommt finden ihr findet nehmen ihr nehmt sehen ihr seht fahren ihr fahrt kommt! findet! nehmt! seht! fahrt!

Schlaft ein!

The Sie imperative: is the Sie form of the present tense verb e.g. Sie kommen Sie finden Sie nehmen Sie sehen Sie fahren Kommen Sie! Finden Sie! Nehmen Sie! Sehen Sie! Fahren Sie! turned back to front!

Halten Sie!

EXCEPTION: The only important exception is sein Sei! Seid! Seien Sie!
