Agenda SAP NetWeaver Administrator 7.1 SAP TechEd 08 Agenda SAP NetWeaver Administrator 7.1 SAP NetWeaver Administrator features in detail Summary

SAP TechEd 08 SAP NetWeaver Administrator 7.1 How does it fit in system administration? Central Administration and monitoring now integrated into Solution Manager Work Centers Possible to drill down from Solution Manager Work center to SAP NetWeaver Administrator SAP NetWeaver Administrator 7.1 completely replaces Visual Administrator SAP NetWeaver Administrator used as the tool for Java system administration and monitoring SAP NetWeaver Administrator 7.1 has many cool features from a usability as well as semantic point of view Work Centers CE 7.1 AS Java Future … Portal 7.0 NWA 7.0 NWA 7.1 NWA 7.0 NWA *.* In this slide we describe the past “mistakes” and how we learnt from them to “improve” in the present and future. Past: Difficult to explain to customers why we had 2 tools/products with central capability like Solution Manager and Central NetWeaver Administrator. Customers had to install the Solution Manager and the Central NWA on separate boxes. Up to SAP NetWeaver 7.0, Visual Administrator was a major tool used for Java System Administration. Today and the Future: There is no Central NWA. Solution Manager has a new functionality (introduced in SP15) called Work Centers. There are two work centers called System Administration and System Monitoring which show overview aggregated information of systems in the landscape. It is possible to drill down to the NetWeaver Administrator of the individual systems.

The Administration Scenarios Start Central, work Local SAP TechEd 08 The Administration Scenarios Start Central, work Local System task list System status list System status based on CCMS information Status overview Important links Solution Manager 7.0 (Landscape Administration/Monitoring from the managing system’s work centers)  Prerequisite: connect managed systems to SLD System status list Common administration transactions SAP NetWeaver Administrator Work Center (System Administration) SAP NetWeaver Administrator 7.1 (System Administration on the managed system)  Clusters with multiple instances are managed as a single entity – a system SolMan in the centre, NWAs @ work on local systems Here we describe how it is possible to do administration using the “System Administration” and “System Monitoring” work centers. Also describe how one can navigate from central administration in Solution Manager workcenters to the local NWA on the monitored systems Pre-requisite for the Central: connecting the system to the SLD. Mention that this will be covered in the hands on session LCM260.

Summary

Managing Connectivity between systems SAP NetWeaver is all about integration and connecting different systems Connectivity managed through the Connectivity Workcenter in the SAP NetWeaver Administrator RFC as well as HTTP connections configured using the NetWeaver Administrator Configuration of connectivity is done using the „Destinations“ tool CTC templates available for complex and long configurations

Hands-On: Connectivity SAP TechEd 08 Hands-On: Connectivity

Exercise #3 Managing connectivity Login details for the NW Java 7.1 server installation Username: Administrator, Password: abcd1234 Login details for the central SLD server SLD HTTP Host: iwdf4398 SLD HTTP Port: 51000 Data Supplier User: j2ee_admin Data Supplier Password: Teched08 SLD Client User: j2ee_admin SLD Client Password: Teched08

Agenda SAP NetWeaver Administrator 7.1 SAP TechEd 08 Agenda SAP NetWeaver Administrator 7.1 SAP NetWeaver Administrator features in detail 2.1 System Administration without Visual Administrator 2.2 Start & Stop systems: The heart of Java System Administration 2.3 Connectivity between Systems 2.4 Logging and Troubleshooting 2.5 Application Centric Administration 3. Summary

Why Logging? The unquestioned top troubleshooting entry point Importance: Entry point to troubleshooting  errors and error context found in the logs Two general use cases for logging: Logs: target group  administrators (for diagnosing and problem localization) Traces: target group  developers (for detailed analysis and debugging) Issues: Volume  many log records are written by the many components Many physical files in a cluster  separate set of files for every node of every instance 6.40 & 7.0 issues in Logging: Poor performance of the advanced log viewing tools Usable tools were not cluster-aware (i.e. OS-level file viewers, etc) No connection between log records and actual component /application which has a problem

Using the log viewer to view the logs as configured. SAP TechEd 08 How Logging – best practices in 7.1 The complete workflow, from configuration to viewing Physical log destinations configuration Comes pre-configured. Can be changed in ConfigTool, but not advised. Log and Trace Severities Again, preconfigured. Can be changed for the whole cluster through Log Configurator for the debugging use case. Log Viewing Use NWA Log viewer 7.1: Improved performance and usability (demo follows) Merges all log files from the whole cluster into one view Has quick filtering New log format now includes the CSN component and development component of the failing application and message ID of the problem to improve supportability. … or if you need to stick with individual files: date and time are now human-readable  (optional, ISVs) Using the config tool to decide which logs should go where. (optional, i.e. if needed for debug)Using the log configurator to decide the severity we need of logs. Using the log viewer to view the logs as configured. Use cases: monitor system state, debug problems Differences to 7.0: Performance Human-readable logs The following demo should show the above use case.

Hands-On: Logging & Troubleshooting SAP TechEd 08 Hands-On: Logging & Troubleshooting

Exercise #4 Logging and Troubleshooting Login details for the NW Java 7.1 server installation Username: Administrator, Password: abcd1234 How to get your IP address Open command prompt and type “ipconfig”. The IP address is from the last network interface “Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection”. Starts with: 10.10.*.* How to add the IP address to the HTTP proxy exclude list Search for “proxy” Launch “SOA Middleware Global Settings” At the end of the field “Exclude List” add comma and the IP address of your neighbor

Summary

Next steps: Integration with SOA and Resource Editing SAP TechEd 08 … but I don’t use Java, I use applications! Applications Availability using NWA Application-Centric: Manage functionalities, not technical apps. Technical Availability: Aggregated state based on runtime, logs and monitors. Keep technical details for drilldown. Initial problem analysis. Use cases: See application state (human-understandable applications) Entry point for application troubleshooting Highlights: Lower knowledge entry barrier – human-understandable functionality Aggregated state: takes into account different sources of information – runtime state, logs, monitors, etc. Drilldown still possible Integrated with other tools: log viewer, configuration tools Logging Integration Next steps: Integration with SOA and Resource Editing

Hands-On: Application Centric Administration SAP TechEd 08 Hands-On: Application Centric Administration

Exercise #5 Application-Centric Administration How to start Application Management service? Search for “start” Launch “Start & Stop” Select “Java EE Services” tab Find and start “Application Management” service Find and stop “XPI Service: AF Core” (hint: filter for “XPI”) How to start Application Manager UI? Launch from the browser Favorites “Application Manager” Login details for the NW Java 7.1 server installation Username: Administrator, Password: abcd1234
