Please note: Separable verbs relating specifically to ‘daily routine’ can be found under: school/meine Tagesroutine/ex.11

A separable verb is a doing word that splits into two parts when used in the PRESENT TENSE An example of a separable verb is ‘anrufen’ – to call

Look what happens to the ‘prefix’ (the first part of the separable verb) when the verb is used in a sentence in the PRESENT TENSE

anrufen INFINITIVE Ichrufemeine Freundinan

rufen ich du Sie er/sie/es wir ihr sie ruf …an ruf …an ruf …an ruf …an ruf …an ruf …an ruf …an e st en t t (to call)

The following verbs work exactly like ‘anrufen’ ausgehen – to go out mitbringen – to bring along einkaufen – to shop aufhören – to stop zurückkommen – to come back ankommen – to arrive

The bad news: The following verbs are all separable and irregular. The good news: There is only a ‘stem’ change with ‘du’ and ‘er/sie/es’

anfangen INFINITIVE Der Unterrichtfängtum 9 Uhran

fangen ich du Sie er/sie/es wir ihr sie fang …an fäng …an fang …an fäng …an fang …an fang …an fang …an e st en t t (to start)

mitnehmen INFINITIVE Ichnehme meine kleine Schwester mit

nehmen ich du Sie er/sie/es wir ihr sie nehm …mit nimm …mit nehm …mit nimm …mit nehm …mit nehm …mit nehm …mit e st en t t (to take along)

aussehen INFINITIVE Ersiehtnichtausattraktiv

aussehen ich du Sie er/sie/es wir ihr sie seh …aus sieh …aus seh …aus sieh …aus seh …aus seh …aus seh …aus e st en t t (to look like )
