Definate article - the: der, die, das Gender of Nouns Definate article - the: der, die, das German nouns are divided into three classifications called gender: masculine, feminine, and neuter. This has nothing to do with sex. It is only a grammatical classification term. There are three ways to say the word “the,” one for each gender.
