Examples Wir fahren durch die Stadt. – We are driving through the city Hast du ein Geschenk für deine Freundin? – Do you have a present for your girlfriend? Sie spielen gegen die Jungen. – They are playing against the boys. Ich komme ohne das Buch. – Im coming without the book

Contractions durch + das = durchs für + das = fürs um + das = ums

Examples Wie viel bezahlst du fürs Rockkonzert? – fürs = für + das Fahr doch nicht so schnell ums haus! – ums = um + das
