All rights reserved. 3A.2-2 Descriptive adjectives and adjective agreement Use an adjective with no added endings after the verbs sein, werden, and bleiben (to remain). When you use an adjective before a noun, you need to include an adjective ending. Mein Bruder ist klein. My brother is short. Seine Mutter bleibt sportlich. His mother stays in shape. Some adjectives ending in -er or -el, such as teuer (expensive) and dunkel, drop the e in the stem when an ending is added. Dropping the e in teuer is optional. Ist das kleine, rothaarige Mädchen deine Schwester? Is the little, red-headed girl your sister? Sie hat einen großen, gut aussehenden Bruder. She has a tall, good-looking brother.
