1st person narrator bound to a tangible notebook: “Deswegen dieses Notizbuch, deswegen mein Beschluß, aufzuzeichnen, was geschehen ist, was geschehen wird.” (18) “Irgend jemand wird dieses Notizbuch finden, irgendjemand wird es lesen, veröffentlichen oder verheimlichen.” (167) Zeno’s thoughts structured in the process of writing his diary (= an illusion) Reader not supposed to understand everything “[Trojanow] schafft eine Text-Oberfläche mit unbekanntem Tiefgang.“ (Hamdorf)
