2 Füll die Lücken aus und übersetz die Sätze : Ich fahre gern nach Italien. Ich fahre lieber nach Spanien. Ich fahre am liebsten in die Türkei. Ich finde die Sprache sehr schön. Ich mag das Essen. Warmes Wetter ist mir wichtig. lieber nach am Challenge: connect the reasons to the first three sentences. Try to use weil to connect these.

3 Snazzy sentence starters! Re-arrange these three sentence starters so that the adverb is first in the sentence. z.B: Montags gehen wir in die Stadt Am fahre liebsten ich … Ich normalerweise besuche … Manchmal wir übernachten … bleiben im Winter wir … Challenge: now complete the sentences!

4 Donnerstag, den 12. September Titel: Was für ein Urlaubstyp bist du? Lernziel ist: we will improve our holiday opinions by using a variety of technical vocabulary. Outcome wäre: so that we can gain more points in the controlled assessment.

6 Read the text on p. and answer the questions that apply to you All: Everyone should have a go at these, as you are aiming for C and above! Most: Anyone aiming for B and above should try the all and most questions. Some: If you are going for an A, you really need to attempt all three sections of the question sheet. Extension: Write sentences about your kind of holiday. Make sure you use the structures from the text – this is what the examiner wants to see! Know your target – highlight the grade descriptor sheet for speaking and keep referring to this as a tick-list.

9 Freitag, den 13. September Titel: Wie kriege ich am besten C – A*? Lernziel ist: we will use time phrases to great effect in our work. Outcome wäre: so that we can access the highest grades at GCSE.

11 Time phrases… are really important and make the examiner aware that you know your stuff! The more often you use an intensifier, the more points you will get! Simples!

12 How to use intensifiers…properly! Intensifiers (such as time phrases) can be used at the beginning of a sentence: Unglücklicherweise war das Museum geschlossen. (Unfortunately the museum was closed). Or they can be used after the verb/modal verb: Wir gehen von Zeit zur Zeit zum Freizeitszentrum. (We go to the sports centre from time to time).

13 Übersetz mal (translate)… We always go to Spain (because the weather is great). We will often go to restaurants (although it is expensive) In the evenings I go to the beach (and meet new people) (but I find that sometimes boring). Challenge: now use the desired structures to make your own sentences to show off your skills).

14 Here is an example of work that got an A last year. Why did it get an A? Now write your own, by changing the key words. Normalerweise fahre ich gern nach Griechenland, weil man hier tauchen kann. Ich bin sehr sportlich, deswegen gehe ich am liebsten schwimmen, aber tauchen macht auch Spaß, da es hoch interessant ist. Griechenland = Greece tauchen = diving sportlich = sporty schwimmen = swimming hoch interessant = highly interesting Spaß machen = to have fun

16 Montag, den 16. September Titel: Was kann man machen, wenn…? (What can you do, if…?) Lernziel ist: we will find suitable holidays/activities for various personalities. Outcome wäre: use wenn clauses to express new ideas in our work about holidays.

19 Ist ist aber langweilig! The examiner wants to see VARIETY. Try to use a different word for ist where possible. Wenn man sich für … interessiert, kann man… (verb am Ende!!!) 3x Wenn sentences using sich interssiert, using these key words: Musik/Sport/Kultur

20 Using es gibt (there is/are): Es gibt einen Park (in der Stadt), wenn man chillen will. einen Flohmarkt (flea market) / einkaufen eine Kletterwand (climing wall) / klettern ein Schwimmbad (swimming pool) / schwimmen This is the structure. Now build sentences using the key words below.

72 Du warst gestern in einem tollen Restaurant. Schreib eine Kritik darüber. Gestern bin ich ins Restaurant Hubble gegangen und es hatte tolle Speisen. Die Kellner waren sehr/ziemlich freundlich und besonders aufmerksam. Das hat mir total gut/gar nicht gut gefallen. Ich habe das Lachssteak mit Kartoffeln gegessen und Bier getrunken. Das war sehr frisch und schmackhaft.

73 Ist etwas schlimmes passiert? Ich fand die Bedienung (the service): - unfreundlich und unaufmerksam (unfriendly and inattentive). - total unhöfflich (completely rude). -einfach inakzeptable (just unacceptable). Die Toiletten waren (the toilets): -nicht gut geflegt (not v.well maintained). -dreckig und nicht gepflegt (dirtly and not clean). -stinkend und unordentlich (smelly and messy). Es gab (there was/were): -keine weiche Handtücher am Waschbecken (no soft towels at the sink). -eine Fliege in meiner Suppe (a fly in my soup). -zu viele Kinder im Retaurant (too many kids in the restaurant).
