Normalmente una concha está puesta a él. Sirve como ayuda durante la caminata, sino también para defenderse contra animales o ladrones.

5 El sombrero Con una concha, para sujetar distintivos de las diferentes paradas (pueblos, ciudades, monasterios, fronteras, iglesias) durante el camino Se utilizaba como protección contra el frío y el sol

contra el frío y el sol Como base o como un techo para sueño General faldas y los pantalones de lino estaban para proteger contra frío y la suciedad El pantalón

8 Las provisiones Los alimentos no se podían conservar durante mucho tiempo,por eso los peregrinos solamente tenían pan y carne para 2-3 días. Más importante era tener el dinero suficiente para todo el viaje. También el dinero era muy importante, por ejemplo, para cruzar los ríos o de las fronteras.

10 Jakobsmuschel Die Jakobsmuschel wurde nach dem
Tod des heiligen Jakobs als Erkennungszeichen der Pilger eingeführt. Früher wurde sie auch zum Wasser schöpfen gebraucht.

11 Pilgerstab Der Pilgerstock ist ein typisches Pilgerkenn- zeichen. An ihm hängt meist die bekannte Jakobs- muschel. Er dient als Wander- hilfe, aber auch zur Verteidigung.

15 Reiseproviant Da Nahrungsmittel zu dieser Zeit nicht sehr lange haltbar waren, wurde nur Proviant wie z.B. Wasser Brot und Fleisch für etwa 2-3 Tage mitgenommen. Daher war es sehr wichtig, genug Geld für die gesamte Reise zu Verfügung zu haben. Ebenfalls war Geld für Zölle sehr wichtig, da es sonst nicht möglich war, z.B. Flüsse zu überqueren.

18 Pilgrim stave The pilgrim stave is a distinguishing feature of the pilgrims with the famous scallop on it. It was used as a peregrination help and sometimes as a weapon to defend enemies or big animals.

It was used as a sunscreen and as a protection against rainy, windy weather.

The pilgrims often had two pairs of sandals because of the several thousand kilometers.

22 Proviant Because food at that time was not very durable, the proviant was just water, bread and meat for about 2-3 days. Therefore it is very important to have enough money available for the entire trip. Money was also needed to pay taxes to cross borders or rivers.
